1950s Fashion, Hair & Makeup ~ The era of marriage, alpha men & women resting in their femininity Suburbs were free, social, friendly, and family-oriented. Many families lived close together, and there were all sorts of group social activities. There were little league teams, boy and girl scouts, and the Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) at schools. Kids walked to school together and had next door best friends. Fashion was elegant and smart, people actually cared about how they presented themselves. The 1950s was one of the best era's for fashion and grooming. I love the aesthetic of the 50's, but what I didn't appreciate was the gender roles. There were stories of women who had to endure abuse and it was expected of them to be "looking pretty, maternal, and always happy and ready to please the husband, and take care of the children". Don't get me wrong, I love expressing my femininity through self love and showing support for your family, but not through social pressure and maintaining a reputation. It was just toxic and people back then were not open minded that we can express both masculine and feminine energy/traits. We're humans and we are so much more than just some gender roles.

I remember the post ww2 properganda pushing women into conformity. Many women didnt get that supportive man. They went to work honey. School teachers, nurses , day care owners real estate , was a common status w/ even ww. Factory work was really popular in Chicago for women back then, and they lived well. I also dont agree w your opinion on black women lives in the earlier days. Many black people excelled in material life and have photographic record of that especially agriculturalists. And carried themselves better often than women do today they had more time to present themselves. Please explore that.

BW in the fifties...lived a slower paced life. They took more time to present themselves in public. Family life extended family-- was normal. Pretty clothes were in the grasp of most any woman, work was available. Food was more wholesome and natural, children were healthier usually than now. Cancer and diabetes was no where near rates now. My parents could sleep in their cars , take in paying guests , Whole tribes of folk could sleep in the park on hot pre air conditioning era summer nights...NO FEAR OF CRIME. BW lives in the 50's generally did not "suck' . Men were more inclined to marry and it was rare to deal w a layabout. Black women w/ ambition could work even grow wealthy the community kept money closer than now. I grew up under professional lionesses in Chicago..a young girl w/and out of wedlock or divorcee status child or two..grew into a real estate magnate or a cadiillac driving homeowner at least. Owned restaurants janitorial services..one of those families stated Johnson products. Another Johnson publishing. A group of BW grew rich in salesunder S.B. Fuller. Google that. I remember factory work was so good black people would go in and buy YACHTS. I personally knew "sporting women" that dealt w/ boxers musicians, gamblers, preachers and doctors (kept). This era was not a 'PASS' condition no no. And more of us actually owned our homes then remember?
