"WHY CULTURE AND HERITAGE IS IMPORTANT TO ME”
A PERSONAL STATEMENT
My experiences concerning continuity and culture are dear to me. Having lived through the civil rights era and remembering thoughtful heroic teachers community activists and friends that defended my path to healthy adulthood... is the reason I still live.
I recognize that preservation of truth is a critical factor . Evidently, there are those organized in positions of power that work in opposition to preserving culture, thought and humanity. The unfortunate truth is, that ignorant people are easier to control. It is my responsibility to counter that, to raise a lamp, provide a way for the youth to internalize history and culture. It is my responsibility to create a future for my people. I cannot rest …never!
